Phantoms takes place in Los Angeles, California. The glitz, the glamour, and the dark things that go "bump" in the night. These creatures have always lived beside us, in secret, in the shadows, until recently when vampires began to push for more publicity. They came "out of the coffin," so to speak, and since then the struggle for survival has been on the rise as other supernatural beings have begun coming out to the world. meanwhile, the rest of the world is left to grapple with their existence.

the year began with a worldwide march against vampires and werewolves. there was another march, later in the day and night, which was in favor of vampires and werewolves. the two groups met and a brawl followed. the death toll was 5 humans, 3 vampires, and 2 werewolves. a state of emergency was declared and vampires and werewolves have all of their would-be rights revoked. they are named unofficial public enemies and the supernatural war begins.

supernatural species, who were once in silent war with one another, must now work together in order to stop whoever is framing the vampires and werewolves of los angeles.

• 1995 a woman is discovered with fang marks in her neck and all of her blood drained. the case goes cold after a month with no suspects or leads on how she was murdered this way. cult activity suspected.
  
• 1996 a large wolf like creature is reportedly seen on the nights of a full moon. it's joked that there is a wolfman .
  
• 1997 a dismembered body is found in the local cemetery, and it is suspected to be the work of a cult or a serial killer. satanic paraphenelia is also found at the scene of the crime.
  
• 1998 a man reportedly catches on fire when stepping out into the sun. the body is identified as darrel hewes, his family report that he had died recently. the whole town is shocked and confused as to how this could have happened.
  
• 2002 a shotty picture of merfolk is taken by an ameteur photographer and goes viral online. it's brushed off as just a hoax.
  
• 2001 a new family moves into the old mansion at the end of chestnut street. everything is fine for the first month, but then they begin to see shadows, report that things are moving on their own, hearing foot steps and voices, seeing odd things from the corner of their eye. the husband mysteriously murders the entire family, claiming that the spirits made him do it. he's arrested and sent to a mental hospital where he committs suicide.
  
• 2007 a japanese company known as Hiro Tech announces their biggest discovery yet: synthetic human blood. it can be used in place of human blood and is available in all blood types.
  
• 2010 vampires “come out of the coffin” and make their presence known to the world. with this new blood they can satisfy their cravings and will no longer need to feed off humans. hiro tech releases the first drinkable blood beverage, it is called ‘vitae.’
  
• 2012 the vampire rights amendment is drafted, giving vampires human rights. it ends up stalled in the senate as the world grapples with the knowledge of vampires.
  
• 2014 vampire attacks on humans and vice-versa, are on the rise. the vra is further stalled and slayers begin to become privately employed.
  
• 2015 werewolves collectively decide to make their presence known. a werewolf council is formed, including alphas from around the world.
  
• 2016 norman potts is elected president. his campaign promises to end vampire attacks and the vra, as well as the werewolf council. he also targets slayers and names them vigilantes.
  
• 2017 following the full moon, several bodies are found in griffith park, their bodies severely mauled. werewolves are suspected and after the next full moon, three more bodies turn up. werewolves and vampires begin to be the targets of hate groups and marches.
