vampires
Vampires cannot go into the sun, but for a few exceptions. If a vampire drinks fae blood, they may go into the sun for a certain amount of time, depending on how much blood they drink. Likewise, there is a special and rare item a vampire can obtain that will allow them to go into the sun freely so long as they are wearing this item. It is usually a form of jewelry, such as a necklace or a ring. If a vampire doesn't have either of these things, they will burn upon immediate exposure to the sun. UV/bright lights will have a similar effect, causing severe pain and burning but won't cause them to catch on fire as quickly as the sun. A vampire must feed every night, otherwise they will become ill. If a vampire goes for a prolonged period of time without feeding, they will become weaker and weaker.

Their appearance will grow more grotesque, with protruding veins, pallid skin, and red eyes. They will become more ravenous looking until they feed, or they will wither away and eventually, die. This is a very painful process for the vampire until they feed and become more like themselves again. The blood a vampire drinks can only be from a beating heart; if a vampire drinks blood from a human that has been dead for some time, they will become sick. This isn't as bad for them as not feeding, but is still very unpleasant. A vampire cannot cross onto holy ground, such as churches. Holy items, such as crosses and holy water, will burn their skin and the pain will be excruciating. Silver also hurts a vampire, causing a necrotic infection the longer they are exposed to silver touching their skin. Just like in most lore, vampires are immortal, some living up to thousands of years. Vampires still have reflections, but cannot show up in photos, and instead will appear as a shadowed blur. Vampires are not repelled by garlic.

A vampire's fangs can be withdrawn similar to a way a cat's claws can, and will retract into their gums. A vampire's fangs will be exposed/withdrawn in the following settings: when they are startled, during sex, when they are hungry, when they are angry/fighting, and when they are about to feed. A vampire's fangs are sharp, and used to pierce the skin so the vampire may drink freely from the wound. A well fed vampire is a very attractive person.

They have a mysterious allure to them, which helps to draw in their victims. To change into a vampire, a human must be on the brink of death. They will need to feed on the vampire's blood, while the vampire feeds on their own blood, and then the process begins. The process will take 48 hours and will be immensely painful as the human's body dies. While enduring the process, the human cannot be exposed to any light, as it will hurt their skin. When they changing process is finally done, the newly sired vampire will need to feed on fresh human blood immediately, or they will die within the next 24 hours.

A vampire may also heal mortals with their blood. To do so, they will offer their blood to a mortal who is injured but not quite close enough to death yet to the point that their blood might cause a transformation. Doing this will cause a temporary blood-bonding link between them for a short period of time, depending on the amount of blood consumed as well as the frequency in which this is done. During the time that the vampire and mortal is bonded, they will be affected by a series of things: aphrodisiac-like effects as well as a strong, sexual attraction towards the vampire, dreams of the vampire, telepathic connection and empathic connection.

Lastly, a vampire's blood is a very potent and sought after thing, by both supernaturals and mortals who know of it's existence. Though some mortals don't realize it is actual vampire blood, they still refer to it by the street drug name known simply as V. V's effect causes an immense euphoric high to the imbiber, and can be very, very addictive

werewolves
A werewolf is a bipedal, large, wolf-like monster. They are drawn to, and weakened by the full moon, giving in to it's pull every time. A werewolf's transformation is very painful, as their bones and limbs will stretch, contort, and break as they literally transform into a full-bodied monster, Once a lycan is fully shifted into its form, they will become maddened. They crave flesh and blood, and will not leave their form until the full moon leaves the sky. During their transformation, memory loss will also take hold, and upon waking up the next day they will have no recollection of what happened the night before. Often, they wake up in the woods or a field somewhere, lost, disoriented, and naked. However, the older a werewolf is an the longer they live out their immortal existence, the easier it is to recollect their memories and control their transformation. This doesn't mean they will be able to fully resist a transformation, though, as their body will become sore much like the body does from a lack of exercise. Eventually, they will have to shapeshift. Lycans are weakest to silver, and only silver. Silver items exposed to the skin will cause necrotic infection and burning similar to the effect it holds on vampires. A silver bullet to the heart, or beheading with a silver blade is the only way to fully kill a werewolf as it causes immense pain and hinders their self-healing abilities.

When a were is in its full form, it may run up to tremendously fast speeds as well as possess super-human strength. The lifespan of a werewolf is similar to that of a vampire's in that they are immortal and ageless. The older a werewolf becomes, the more power they have over their transformations to the point that they can shift at will. A lycan however, can never, under any circumstances, ignore the call of the moon. On the days leading up to a werewolf's transformation, they will become agitated and fatigued, and their body will ache similar to the way a normal human's body feels from a lack of exercise, except magnified greatly. Once their transformations are over, the werewolf will need a few days to recover before feeling normal and much like themselves again. To become a werewolf, one must be bitten by another fully fledged werewolf. After being bitten, the body will begin to undergo a series of strange things: the human will crave meat more frequently, and dream of running in fields and forests and being free, often times they will dream about the moon and werewolves, and wolves in general.

witches
For as long as there has been an Earth, there has been magic. It lives within every atom of the universe, breathing life into our world. And it was only a matter of time before the human race would learn to harness it. At first, it was only women, with their indomitable, fearless hearts, that were able to finally use magic. Together they formed groups known as covens, and for a time the witches were revered. Even worshipped.

But the hearts of man are as cruel as they are jealous. The first warlocks of the world were created by force. A group of men kidnapped their local coven and forced them to endow them with the ability to wrangle magic and use it to their benefit. After that, there were always two types of magic users, witches and warlocks. But both types of user all have a power source.

Power sources are exactly like they sound, they are the source of a witch or warlocks power. It differs from each individual and each power source is unique in it’s own way. A witch or warlock is presented their power source on their thirteenth birthday in a special ritual. The power source usually chooses the warlock or witch in some way, whether it’s a beloved object or animal. They have power without their power source, as long as it’s in one piece and protected.

Power sources also have their own special type of protection. A witch or warlocks power source is incredibly difficult to destroy and it takes a special weapon or spell, most have been lost through time, or by the covens eradicating them.

Throughout the years, witches and warlocks have formed a kinship. They’ve reproduced and their children inherited their gifts, or gifts of their own. They spread across the seven continents, each coven developing their own special brand of magic.

There are two main covens in LA, The Black Star Coven being the biggest. Each coven has its own Supreme Being, or Supreme. The Supreme is always female and is the leader of their respected coven. The Supreme is chosen through a ritual known as The Seven Wonders. Only a true Supreme can do all Seven Wonders.

ghosts
Spirits are the restless souls of those who have died, but who cannot seem to pass on to whatever realm awaits them in the after life. Spirits can appear in a variety of different methods: full-bodied apparitions will look like a normal person to some, though how the spirit chooses to represent themselves is up to them. Some may appear with wounds which represent how they died, some may be somewhat transparent. Other forms include: a shadow form, banshees, mist/ectoplasm, orbs, or poltergeists. Also, the temperament of the ghost is up to the writer. Some may be mean-spirited and cruel, while others may be kind in nature and merely wish to coexist within their haunted home. Spirits may leave the area where they haunt but only for a short time (maximum of three days), before they will have to return to the area they are haunting. Spirits can travel in a variety of ways, from astral projection, teleportation, or latching on to another living soul. Spirits may also possess others and communicate with the living by means of ouija boards, writing and mediums/psychics. Note however, that possession from a spirit is not nearly as strong as that of a demon or an angel.

gifted humans live among the mortals and blend in easily. they are normal humans, though born with certain gifts or special abilities which make them differ from other humans. often they are included in paranormal investigations and aid hunters in their work against supernatural beings.

shifters
Shifters are humans who can shape shift freely and at will into various other animals. Shifters are not limited to any sort of animal, however the more they shift in one day, the more fatigued they will become from it. Also, even though shifters can freely change into any animal they choose, does not mean they won't have to adjust to certain things such as swimming as an aquatic animal or flight as a bird. Unlike the lycans, a shifter's transformation is much more fluid, and practically painless. Most weaknesses which apply to other supernatural things, also apply to shifters: silver will burn and eventually, give them necrotic wounds. If not removed soon enough, the shifter can be at risk of losing certain limbs or body parts.

Unlike vampires and other unholy beings, shifters can live their lives as normal humans and won't feel an urge compelling them to feast or change against their will. Also, a shifter can be present in and around holy areas or objects. shape shifting into humans, however, is very difficult and takes a great deal of concentration and ability for the shifter to pull it off. If a shift is done incorrectly, the shifter will be met with a great deal of pain and sometimes even deformation.

The majority of the population are mortals also known as human beings. Most of these mortals were unaware that the supernatural world existed beside their own until vampires "came out of the coffin." However, it was not unheard of for mortals to have had paranormal experiences and some mortals had knowledge of the supernatural. But there are some mortals who were born with special gifts. There are many different abilities that gifted humans have been recorded to have, but the most prominent ones are listed below.

merfolk
The Merfolk species reside mainly in the earth’s vast oceans. There are two main types, shallow water merfolk and deep ocean merfolk. Despite their similarities, the types of merfolk couldn’t be anymore different. The shallow water merfolk are friendly, more than often falling in love with mortals and creating blended families on the land. However, if a merfolk mates with a human, the humans genes will cancel out the merfolks and their children will be born normal humans.

Merfolk have extended lifespans, many living to be 2-300 years old. Their meat is a delicacy to some and there are groups dedicated to hunting them for it. Their blood is useful in healing spells and has other magical properties. Vampires find it especially tasty and filling. Their blood and meat are often flavored like their habitat and a merfolk will usually smell a little “fishy,” despite how many showers or perfumes they use.

They appear like “classic” merfolk, with a human upper body and torso, but a fish-like fin for legs. While on land, a merperson’s tail will melt into human legs and for all intents and purposes, they will appear human. However, they can only go 72 hours before returning to the ocean for a period of no less than 12 hours. A merfolk who does not return to the ocean will dehydrate and die within 5 days of being without true salt water. If a merfolk has a tub of ocean water, this can also be used, but the water must be changed after each transformation, because the merfolk absorb the ocean’s salt and nutrients through their skin and gills.

Deep water merfolk live off fish and are deeply religious. They pray to the ocean daily and worship it the way Catholics worship the crucifix and Christ. The ocean is Mother to them and many deep ocean mermaids become oceanic priests, priestesses, or end up heavily involved in their religion. Because of this, they are not political and do not care about power. They’re akin to Buddhist monks and mainly want to be left alone to practice their religion in peace.

The deep water merfolk are usually deathly pale, with light colored hair and light colored eyes. Their fins are pastel and silvery and they only eat the fish and krill that their religion deems appropriate. Deep water merfolk hardly leave their oceanic home and many despise the human world. They believe humans to be evil polluters who destroy their own home, as well as the merfolks.

Shallow water merfolk have tanned or dark colored skin and brightly hued, golden tails. Their hair comes in all colors of the rainbow and they live off the meat of sea creatures, such as sea lions, dolphins, and the like. They do not worship the Mother ocean the way their deep water counterparts do, but they are deeply rooted in supernatural politics. It’s one of the reasons that they create blended families with mortals, to stake a claim in the human world. Shallow water mermaids are ready to seek rights, but they need to get more organized. Since shallow water merfolk are interested in power, some are more trustworthy than others.

fae
There are two main types of Faerie Courts, the Seelie and Unseelie Courts. The Seelie Court, which are mainly Spring and Summer Faeries, are known for being friendly towards humans and for their benelovent nature. The Unseelie Court, which is mainly Autumn and Winter Faeries, are known for their abhorrance towards humans and most other supernatural creatures, preferring the company of other Unseelies or (some) Angels.

Once there was only a Seelie Court and a Faerie Queen and King. They ruled over the other Fae in "The City of Everlasting Change." However, one day there was an uprising. Groups of Fae didn't want to belong to the city anymore and wanted to advance on their own. They built their own hierarchy and branced off, calling themselves the Unseelie Court.

The Unseelie Court was built on a dislike for humans and other supernaturals, as well as the idea of keeping the Faerie line safe and hidden. Most Autumn and Winter Fae left for the Unseelie Court, some left to be what's called a "Solitary Faerie." Many of the Spring and Summer Faeries stayed with the Seelie Court, but some left to be "Solitary Faeries," too.

Solitary Faeries are fae who prefer to stay neutral. They don't side with either court and whether they accept humans or other supernaturals is entirely based on their own preference. Solitary Faeries and members of the Seelie Court are most likely to live among or even fall in love with humans or other supernaturals. Faeries are known for their unearthly beauty and most supermodels and some actresses are actually fae. Although there are two different courts all faeries have fluorescent wings and shimmery skin, depending on what season they hail from.

WINTER FAERIES


Winter faeries are fae born between the beginning of the summer solstice to the beginning of spring solstice. They are the most bitter and rude out of the faeries and they despise humans. Most Winter Fae are members of the Unseelie Court and they are very vocal about their distaste for anyone that isn't Fae or Angelic. Winter faeries have either blue or white wings that emit a frosty blue or white dust* whenever they flap. Whenever their wings are out and they're in faerie mode, their skin with start to glow either blue or white, to match their wings. Their eyes, whatever color they are naturally, will also start to brighten.

SPRING FAERIES


The Spring Fae are much sweeter than their Winter counterparts. They enjoy the company of other supernaturals and also have a soft spot for humans. Many Spring Faeries are members of The Seelie Court and are known for their admiration for humans, animals, and other supernaturals. Spring Faeries are born between the end of the summer solstice and the beginning of the summer solstice and have either green or pink wings. Whenever they have their wings out in faerie mode they emit a pink or green dust* and their skin will give of a faint glow that matches their wings.

SUMMER FAERIES


Summer Fae are a lot like the Spring Fae since they too accept humans, but the Summer Fae are somewhat more mischevious and rowdy. They enjoy the company of other supernaturals too, sometimes a bit too much. The Summer Faeries are definitely the life of the party. Summer Fae are mostly members of the Seelie Court. Born during the beginning of summer solstice until the beginning of autumn solstice, Summer Faeries have either yellow or orange wings which admit a light dust*. When their wings are out their skin will give off a faint glow to match their wings.

AUTUMN FAERIES


Autumn Fae straddle the line between good and bad more than any other faerie. Most Autumn Fae are members of the Unseelie Court, meaning they usually loathe humans. However, some have been known to do favors for humans and other supernaturals, as long as they were also benefitting. Autumn Fae are definitely the shadiest. These slippery fae are born during the beginning of the summer solstice until the beginning of the winter solstice. Their wings are usually brown or lavendar and admit a frosty dust.* Whenever their wings are out their skin will glow faintly to match the color of their wings. *This dust is known as Pixie Dust and can get mortals and other supernaturals high when snorted, smoked, or ingested. Faerie blood is also intoxicating to vampires and can allow them to walk in the sunlight.

ghoul
The race of ghouls originally spawned during the dawn of magic, when dying or desperate humans made the ultimate sacrifice to a demon, their humanity. The human would then have some of it's blood mixed with the demon's in a dark ritual, leaving the human immortal but with a deadly hunger. Unlike vampires ghouls can go out in daylight and as long as they stay fed they appear normal. However, they have no heartbeat, don't exactly need to breathe (although some do out of habit) and most have trouble controlling their intense lack of inhibitions.

That's because ghouls are completely controlled by their needs. Ghouls are focused on filling their needs, however basic or complicated they may be. All of them need to be fed, usually on a weekly basis. For more on that see below. Other ghouls need excitement or danger or sex. Some need it all. Whatever their needs are, ghouls are controlled by making sure they're met.

In order to remain immortal, ghouls must feed. And what they eat is human flesh, blood, organs, and bone. They eat it all and love it. To a ghoul, a freshly killed human is their number one desire. They can live off an average sized human for awhile if they don't gorge themselves and the proper way of saving it. If a ghoul doesn't feed they will start to feel ill and begin to to experience a lack of energy, nausea, and head/body aches. They will also slowly start to decay and will eventually die. It would take a normal sized ghoul roughly two months two completely decay and die.

When properly fed, ghouls are gifted with immense strength and can easily lift a full grown man and toss him like a rag doll. They can snap a woman or man's neck with a simple flick of their wrist or crush bones with the right stomp on the right body part. Due to their often charismatic nature, ghouls are also very skilled at persuasion. They're able to spot the weakest and/or most desperate human and lure them out of their safety zone in order to trap them

slayers
In the beginning, there were only two species on earth, human and demon. The demons ruled with an iron-clawed fist, enslaving most of mankind and killing the rest. However, once (wo)man learned how to use magic, they began to fight back. This is where the line of slayers began. A coven of witches gathered a group of young women and together the witches endowed the young women with the essence of the demons. This gave the young women incredible strength, agility, the abiity to see into the future through prophetic dreams, as well as an enhanced healing ability. These women were then sent out to fight back against the demons and whenever one would fall another would be called to take her place. This group of women continued throughout the centuries, their line always growing. There is now thousands of slayers, operating in cities and towns all over the world. They mostly work alone, but some have been known to team up. Slayers are usually born into slaying families and the women in that family train their daughters, nieces, or granddaughters in the art of slaying.*

THE ART OF SLAYING: The Art of Slaying, or "TAOS", differs from family to family, but what it basically comes down to is fight style. Whether it's weapons, different approaches to hunting, or ways of interupting dreams each family has their own TAOS. And even though each slaying family's tactic is different, they all have the same basic goal: rid the world of evil. Or die trying. That's what's at the heart of TAOS.

Demons and Angels

Demons

For thousands of years, demons have secretly ruled the earth. Their presence can be felt as close as down the street, all the way to the White House. There are many different types of demons and not all of them bad. Some demons have been converted and some were never evil to begin with. But the majority of demons aren’t white hats. They’ve evolved over the years so that they appear and sound completely human. However, demons are anything but human. They’re much older, crueler, and more powerful. The demons of the modern age have the most potent magic and they know how to wield. Players may choose a Biblical demon, or they may create one. When choosing a Biblical demon make sure you stay true to their original title and you do your homework.

Angels

Before the dawn of man, there were been angels. As the Keepers and protectors of God’s will, they ruled beneath their messiah for eons. Long ago, they were permitted to live on Earth, until the time of Lucifer and the first demons. As Satan’s dark army rose the angels were called back to Heaven. The Lord needed time to build an army of his own. As the centuries flew by, the demons began to transform, becoming vampires, incubi, and succubi. And as the demons changed, the angels remained. But their numbers grew. A fleet of angels have been sent down to Earth in order to rally their earthbound comrades against the rising darkness. Angels have flawless skin, possess unearthly beauty, and have hair that feels softer than silk. They have an impressive wingspan, made up of feathers, and their coloring varies. Some angelic wings have been known to be 10+ feet long. However, most angels keep them hidden, out of fear of being discovered.
